The annual KULinary campaign has become a key event on the Malaysia Airports’ calendar as it shines the spotlight on the myriad of food and beverage options available at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2.
As one of Asia’s best-known international tourism brands, MIGF in turn has helped place Malaysia firmly on the food radar of the world over the past 18 years. In that time, the festival has evolved to incorporate a wide spectrum of gastronomic offerings, while raising standards and recognising top chefs and restaurants.
Connecting Flights
As the airports are our gateway to the nation, it was a natural move for MIGF to bring its expertise to these vital facilities and help enhance the airport experience for all travellers. The goal is to create enjoyable dining experiences for everyone who passes through these travel hubs, whether arriving, departing, on a stopover or simply visiting for a bit of shopping.
As in previous years, the KULinary campaign will see the whole spread of each terminals’ food outlets reviewed and evaluated – only with slightly different mechanics this time around.
Whereas in the past these reviews occurred anonymously by ‘mystery shoppers’, this year’s judging was facilitated by members of the esteemed MIGF Festival Advisory Committee over the course of two productive days. Judges took a comprehensive tour of each terminal and gave marks based on factors that include ambience, variety, freshness, service, value for money and overall experience.
With the judging phase complete, marks will be tallied and up to 20 winners chosen. These winning restaurants will be recognised in an awards ceremony set to take place on 7 November, to which media and special guests will be invited.
Check-In at KULinary
The public will get a chance to take a tasting trip of their own as the award-winners will be on full display from 8-10 November at the Anjung Concourse, KLIA Departure Hall. Each restaurant will have its own specially designed station, serving up its award-winning dishes – and all conveniently located in one food-filled zone. Just grab some nosh, take a seat and dine at your own leisure!
This culinary showcase has much more to offer though as cooking demonstrations and workshops with top chefs will be happening throughout each day. Keep your eyes on the main stage where celebrity guest chefs, both local and international, will be divulging secrets and taking you through recipes step by step.
Meanwhile, more intimate workshops will occur in a smaller room, covering a wide range of cuisines. There’s no better opportunity to get instruction from top talents in the food world, and with sprawling views out over the runway, these sessions will be something special!
Holding pride of place at the event will also be the Airlink Gastro Village where national flag carriers will showcase the food they serve on board as well as delights from their respective countries. This is where you can take a culinary cruise around the world – all within the borders of KLIA.
